This week, we discuss the glamorous world of the Magazine Girl, dissecting the real and fictional lives of women who worked at glossy magazines during their heyday.
I saw Anna Wintour in Soho during NYFW years ago, except I couldn’t actually see her. She was completely surrounded by 4 or 5 bodyguards in black suits, with an umbrella overhead. It looked hilarious from afar, like a black octopus with 10 legs slowly shuffling down Broadway. It made me realize that the weight of her fame, the lack of privacy and autonomy must take a toll on her. I hope she finally gets to relax in obscurity after retirement. Maybe get out of NYC.
I really loved this episode. I’m curious to know if you guys think that PR girlies on the brand side (not agencies) are a sort of contemporary or recent manifestation of magazine girl?
What are some current magazine recs??
i hope you guys have cat marnell as a guest someday
Who else took the vogue test?
